Gov. Wolf Announces $11 Million in Workforce Development Funding for PAsmart Apprenticeship Programs

September 21, 2022 by in Workforce Development

On September 15, 2022, ASHLIN received notification that its $650,000 PASmart Grant to initiate a non-traditional Registered Apprenticeship (RAs) program for Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMAs) in the healthcare sector in South Central Pennsylvania and Lancaster County was approved. The apprenticeship program creates a talent pipeline that offers training for non-traditional workers and fills critical vacancies in the healthcare sector. ASHLIN Management Group, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC), Pennsylvania’s Community College, Lancaster Workforce Development Board, and South-Central PA Works (SCpaWorks) are collaborating to launch the program that will train 40 apprentices to become certified clinical medical assistants beginning in 2023.

The grant is designed to better align education, workforce, and economic development initiatives. Pennsylvania’s Labor and Industry Apprenticeship and Training Office (ATO), as part of Governor Wolf’s PA Statewide Movement for Accountability, Readiness and Training (PAsmart) framework, is providing the funding.
